Fun for Generations Capital Campaign
FUN FOR GENERATIONS CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
GOAL - $2.7 MILLION BY MAY 1, 2018
To Our Dear YMCA Friends:
Throughout our history, the Wapakoneta Family YMCA has been a cornerstone of our community. It is a place for all to come together for fun, safe recreation. For more than 17 years, families and individuals have had the opportunity to come together under our Christian mission to improve themselves spiritually, mentally and physically.
Our YMCA has served our community and our membership for almost two decades. Over those years, our membership has grown; we’ve seen larger class sizes, increased activity in the wellness center and additional programming to serve our diverse membership.
With steady growth comes the necessity to maintain our facility and equipment; repairs, renovations and expanded space to house the additional programs and ministries our members – and our community – have come to enjoy and expect. After much prayer and careful planning, the Wapakoneta Family YMCA has launched Fun For Generations Capital Campaign, a $2.7 million fund-raising strategy that will help us renovate some of the most important features of our campus and offer more services for our growing community. Upon completion, this project will ensure that our children and grandchildren will have a safe place to laugh and play, and get healthier spiritually, mentally and physically for generations.
We continue to be inspired by your faith and commitment to the Wapakoneta Family YMCA and encourage you to consider the most generous gift you can give to support our efforts to improve the YMCA experience for our members and guests alike. By embracing this opportunity to expand our ministry and programs, we will ensure that the YMCA will not only be able to continue to serve as a leader in mission work, but also meet the growing needs of the communities we serve.

The Wapakoneta Family YMCA opened in 2000 with only one moderate facility upgrade in 2008. It needs to be upgraded to keep up with growing membership and programs. With over 5,000 members, the Y is literally bursting at the seams. Over-crowded equipment, classes, and programs each day demonstrate a clear need for expansion of facilities and programs. The YMCA conducted a comprehensive Community Needs Assessment in 2016 showing that our community desires more services for multi-generational families to participate in learning, recreational and healthy-lifestyle activities. The expansion and renovation of the YMCA will further benefit our community and improve the quality of life for every family in Auglaize County.
THE Y’S COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY HEALTH
When the doors opened in 2000, the Wapakoneta Family YMCA began investing in the health of area residents. Our commitment to serve all segments of the community is as strong today as it was 17 years ago. No one is denied YMCA membership for an inability to pay; all members are treated equally. The YMCA remains dedicated to developing and nurturing relationships with all members of the community, with a facility and programs designed to help all better themselves.
The Y is an important part of our community. The proposed project will improve the quality of life in our community and add more activities for our growing community. We will be able to serve more members across a broad socio-economic scale, and attract more families to Auglaize County. The increase in space and equipment means our community will benefit from varied opportunities for healthy living, for family time, and for fun.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT - $1.7 MILLION INVESTMENT
The Wapakoneta Family YMCA is committed to the future leaders of our community, and their development in a safe and nurturing environment. Security and recreation have changed dramatically over the last two decades, and the YMCA is going to invest in new ways to engage children in a nurturing and fun environment.
The Wapakoneta Family YMCA will construct a brand-new, state-of-the-art, Child Watch. The new space will be more secure, and will have its own restrooms. The space will also have separate infant, toddler, preschool and school-age sections. The larger space, new toys and fun activities, will serve more people in fun recreational activities.
ADVENTURE CENTER WITH SOFT PLAY PLAYGROUND
A focal point of our new youth development wing, will be our expansive indoor playground and space-themed soft play space. The space will be surrounded by natural light and will be easily accessible by our Child Watch staff.
AFTER-SCHOOL CHILD CARE CENTER
The Wapakoneta Family YMCA will remodel existing space into a new, modern and open before-and after-school child care center. The larger space will serve more children, and be a significant upgrade to current facilities.
FAMILY LOCKER ROOMS
The YMCA will create a new set of private shower facilities for families with small children, seniors, those with disabilities, or anyone who would want to use the new private facilities.
HEALTHY LIVING - $1 MILLION INVESTMENT
WELLNESS CENTER EXPANSION
A new 2,400-square foot expansion of the Wellness Center will allow for greater space and more equipment.
The expansion includes the installation of two saunas.
LOBBY WITH COFFEE SHOP AND CLIMBING WALL
A new, more open, lobby will be constructed that will allow for multiple generations to interact in a warm and safe space. The new lobby will include a proposed café. The major focal point of the lobby will be a fireplace and climbing wall for all ages.
OTHER FACILITY UPGRADES
The project will also include significant upgrades to our existing adult and youth locker rooms. We will be replacing the lockers, the floors, the shower areas, and introducing a more open layout to our facilities. Flooring throughout the facility will be renovated and upgraded. The project will provide for new pool equipment storage, creating a safer and more organized pool deck.
Collaboration and partnership are key to any successful project. The Wapakoneta Family YMCA will be partnering with Mercy Health St. Rita’s and Head Start of Auglaize County to develop a one-stop community-service campus. The new campus will provide numerous resources for families in our community and allow for greater opportunities for YMCA members and participants.
The Wapakoneta Family YMCA Board of Trustees has embarked on a campaign to raise $2.7 million for the project. If the Wapakoneta Family YMCA were able to raise more than $2.7 million in the campaign, the following projects may be added:
A space-themed outdoor waterpark and splash pad will make a great addition to our community. The park will be open for all ages and would quickly become a favorite destination on a hot summer day. The splash pad will be a great resource for parents and grandparents in our community and will be designed with little or no standing water.
ADDITIONAL WELLNESS SPACE
While our $2.7 million project includes an expansion of our Wellness Center, if we are able to raise more, we will expand the Wellness Center even further and almost double our current space.
AIR CONDITIONING IN THE GYMNASIUM
If we are able to raise more than $2.7 million, we will be installing air conditioning in our gymnasium for those hot summer months.
